Hey everyone. I didn't get much out of today's reading. Although Joel Pratt pointed out to me that God blessed Jesus even before his ministry began (in Matthew), which is really encouraging because we don't have to do any heroic deeds or anything to win God's favor. He loves us/delights in us even now. Hope to hear from some more people soon =T.
Hmm that is so amazing-i love how Joel makes such insightful comments like that :)
i got a lot of reassurement from the line 'I will be your shield and your greatest reward or something like that...Right now, im drawing a lot of hope from what God said to Abraham at the beginning of his covenant.. To me that line signified that I dont have to look for human's favor: especially as I am right now in France where Ive been more outgoing-I have to think of the things that I have been doing like clubbing and dancing...and what sort of comportement I should have among my friends here. :)

Yeah, that verse definitely brought me a lot of comfort and encouragement when I was feeling especially overwhelemed during Urbana with how much I realize I need to change and all that God calls us to be for Him.
The extent to which God affirms His son at the beginning of his ministry in Mt 3:17 is a striking contrast to Mt 27:45-50 in which Jesus cries out to Jesus, but God turns His face away from him. Jesus dies alone and darkness covers the land. In order for God to be able to affirm us in what we do, no matter where we are standing, God had to forsake His son. It is not only God's command that we be righteous and holy, but it is our joy and privilege that we are able to be made holy through God's grace.
When John forbade Jesus from being baptized of him in Mt 3:14, It reminded me of myself and how I often forbid God from coming nearer to me out of fear that he will see and truly realize how unworthy I am. I forget that he already knows, and loves me still. I continually need to remind myself to allow Jesus to take on my sorrows and my sins. It just takes putting aside my pride and accepting this gift with humility.
I wish that I could be able to be as bold as Peter and John were. I want to be able to speak God's truth with conviction and fearlessness. And I realize that Peter who speaks with boldness in Acts 4:13 is the same Peter who, not too long ago, due to fear and lack of boldness denied Christ three times. This really encourages me, that God can give even me the boldness to be a witness for Him. When God blesses our lives, we have no right to keep it to ourselves, and we have an obligation to share the good news with others. I think this is what Peter and John mean when they say in Acts 4:20, "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
