In Matthew, the contrast between baptizing with water and with the Holy Spirit and fire is pretty striking..like we become soo clean =D. Also verse 10 "The ax is already at the root of the trees..." and "unquenchable fire" in verse 12 convict me and give me a sense of urgency.
In Acts, the beggar begged "every day" at the temple courts and got a whole lot more than he asked for. This challenges me to pray and ask God for things consistently. It also is an encouraging reminder that God is faithful and knows what's best and will give us the best in His time.
Verse 12 and 16 humble me and remind me that it is God who works and ministers, not me. Verse 19 is also convicting.
In Psalm verse 7 "But I, by your great mercy will come into your house" humbles me as well. By God's mercy we can even approach God.
Genesis 12:1-2 challenges me to trust God. Am I willing to leave everything behind, my country, my people, my family, my comfort zone? Do I believe that God has wonderful things to offer if I obey?
Dear Gloria
The answer to yur last question is yes yes and yes. When I read the command that God had for Abram to leave all that he knew, I was very comforted. It reminded me again and again why and how much He's blessed me since leaving malaysia, and then melbourne, and then United States. :) It's funny because your intital fears always seemed silly later on. I enjoyed reading the comments and I have to catch up more tonight! I love reading the Bible again (i havent done it for the past few days) and I hope to be more regular!
